Alpert originally sang "This Guy's in Love with You" on a 1968 television special.
This was the first #1 hit in US for both Alpert and his record label, A&M. This was also his first release on A&M Records that contained vocals.
In 1969, Dionne Warwick's version peaked at #7 in the US.
The single's B-side, "A Quiet Tear" is an album track from his first album in 1962.
