Four new 2-on-1 CDs with Franki Valli. A great collection for any fan of Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons! Street Date: June 24, 2008.
Solo / Timeless Frankie's first two solo albums were essentially Four Seasons projects sans group harmony, with Bob Crewe producing and Bob Gaudio, Charles Calello and Artie Schroeck arranging. And the material was every bit as strong (or even stronger) than on the group efforts, with the hits '(You re Gonna) Hurt Yourself'; 'The Proud One'; 'Can t Take My Eyes off You', and 'To Give (the Reason I Live)' highlighting the two releases. Also includes Frankie's original version of 'The Sun Ain't Gonna Shine (Anymore)', which went on to be a huge hit for the Walker Brothers.
Close-Up / Valli were originally released 1976. Close-Up was Frankie's first release for Private Stock, scored his first number one solo hit with 'My Eyes Adored You', and the rest of the record, with the usual 4 Seasons crew of Gaudio, Crewe and Callelo being joined by such talents as Jim Keltner, Pattie Austin and Clydie King, is top-notch. Meanwhile, 'Valli', which came out a year later in 1976, featured such guests as Lee Ritenour, Ernie Watts, Ray Parker, Jr. and members of the London Symphony Orchestra! Includes a 10-minute version of the hit 'Swearin' to God'.
Is the Word / Heaven Above Me were the result of Frankie's move to Warner Brothers and it coincided with his smash hit title song to the musical Grease, which headlines 'Is the Word', while the hit 'Where We Did Go Wrong' leads off 1980's 'Heaven Above Me'.
The title track to 1975's '
Our Day Will Come ' scored big on the charts even without any 4 Seasons involvement, while 1977's 'Lady Put the Light Out' reunited Frankie with producer/arranger Charles Callelo. Both on on a new CD.
